Welcome Publishers!
BrowZine is a publisher-neutral reading and discovery platform available on iOS, Android and the web serving libraries interested in presenting their subscribed scholarly content in a way that promotes content discovery, browsability, reading and current awareness and deliver that experience through tablet and mobile devices. We do this by presenting the scoped holdings of libraries from supported publishers in a skeuomorphic way to enable an intuitive virtual browsing experience. Titles are arranged in a three-tier taxonomy and we link to full text on publisher (or aggregator) websites by integrating into existing authentication systems.
Because of the unique way that content is presented, journals are treated "as journals" and thus encourage browsing of entire issues and rewarding serendipitous discovery largely lost by search-based discovery systems. Users can also easily add journal titles they care about to "My Bookshelf" which then become the set of titles for which we send notifications to that user's device indicating when new issues come out, further increasing the chances of users returning back to your content on a regular basis to stay up to date with the latest discoveries!
All full text retrievals are done from native publisher websites just as they would if a patron were following an OpenURL link from an A&I database and all download statistics will be enumerated for the corresponding institution. At no time does publisher full text content nor user credentials pass through Third Iron servers. Thus, all entitlements are ultimately up to the publisher based on the authenticated users requests.
Started in 2011, BrowZine can now be found in hundreds of libraries in over 20 countries around the world and has been positively reviewed by leading library publications and lauded by users for the innovation in scholarly reading it is bringing to faculty, researchers and students.
